On September 20, Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced support in New York for several maternal and child health projects, including an Aga Khan Foundation Canada initiative.
AKFC’s Mother Care and Child Survival in Underserved Regions of Mali, Mozambique and Pakistan will receive up to $8.4 million in funding over three years. This will be matched by a contribution of up to $3.6 million from AKFC. The project aims to improve maternal, newborn and child health and nutrition practices and to strengthen health systems at village and district-level institutions in the Mopti region of Mali, the province of Cabo Delgado in Mozambique and the provinces of Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan.
The projects are part of Canada’s contribution to the 2010 G-8 Muskoka Initiative. You can read the official announcement on the Prime Minister’s website.
