On Tuesday, January 26, Bridges that Unite officially inaugurate
a month-long run at the Canada Science and Technology Museum in Ottawa, in the presence of community leaders, elected officials, and diplomats, including a delegation of Members of Parliament from Afghanistan.
The Honourable Beverley Oda, Minister of International Cooperation, along with Mme. Denise Amyot, President and Chief Executive of the Canada Science and Technology Museum Corporation, and Khalil Z. Shariff, CEO of Aga Khan Foundation Canada, offered opening remarks before touring the exhibition.
Minister Oda, who recalled her participation in the inauguration of the exhibition in Victoria, B.C., noted that “the partnership between AKFC and CIDA is about building bridges – bridges between developed and developing societies, between peoples, between countries, nations and cultures -- bridges that make the world a more peaceful and prosperous place.”
Mme. Amyot echoed the Minister’s remarked and added that “while at the Canada Science and Technology Museum, the Bridges that Unite exhibition will highlight many of Canada’s contributions on the world stage.”
Canadian global leadership takes many forms, said Mr. Shariff, CEO of AKFC, “but in a fragile world, the work of peace belongs to all Canadians.” The exhibition, he said, "is a symbol of what Canada and Canadians do best -- let communities be the architects of their own change."
