Meet Dr. Ashraf, who revived the once-defunct neonatal intensive care unit at the Skardu Regional Hospital, helping to reduce neonatal mortality in the community. Now, Dr. Ashraf trains healthcare workers in Baltistan, improving newborn care across the region.

Nurses are a critical part of health systems and are sometimes the only health professionals a patient will see. In Mozambique, we train nurses like Olga, who graduated from the Pemba Nursing School and went on to specialize in maternal and neonatal care.

In traditional Swahili culture, Kungwi women conduct life cycle rituals, including performing at weddings and milestones in a woman’s life. In Tanzania, this group of Kungwi women are using their influence as community leaders to spread awareness about gender issues like sexual and reproductive health and gender-based violence.
