The YAC spearheads AKFC’s national youth engagement strategies and ensures that youth perspectives are integrated throughout AKFC’s programs to engage Canadians.

The YAC focuses on its members’ diverse skill sets and interests. As a group, members work together across projects, focusing on three pillars of work: content creation, outreach and engagement, and research and evaluation. In addition, members can choose to be a part of up to two subcommittees, on topics such as communications, research, or priority initiatives.
AKFC covers all expenses related to the Youth Advisory Committee to ensure this program is as accessible as possible for all young people in Canada.

About the Program
To be eligible for participation in AKFC’s Youth Advisory Committee, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be based in Canada and able to commit up to 4 hours per month for a one-year term.
- Be a passionate young leader age 16 to 21 with a keen interest in youth engagement and international development.
How does recruitment work?
- In the first phase, you will complete the online application form and if you are selected to move forward, then you will participate in an interview. After which, you will be notified of whether you have been selected for the YAC.
What is the timeline for recruitment?
- Applications are due on January 11. Interviews will take place throughout February, and applicants will be notified about final selection by the end of February. The first meeting will take place in April.
How often do meetings occur?
- We hold meetings on a monthly basis on Zoom, on the third Tuesday of each month. Additional meetings may be scheduled to focus on specific pillars of work or special projects.
How do the stipends work?
- At the end of your 1-year term, you will receive a stipend to compensate for your time and effort. You have to be ongoingly engaged to receive the full stipend amount.

- Applications are due on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at 11:59pm ET.
