Accessibility Policy

Aga Khan Foundation Canada is committed to ensuring equal access and participation for people with disabilities.

We are committed to treating people with disabilities in a way that allows them to maintain their dignity and independence. We believe accessibility is essential to integration, equal opportunity, and respectful service for everyone, and are committed to meeting the needs of people with disabilities in a timely manner.

AKFC is committed to meeting accessibility requirements under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) and compliance with the Human Rights Code (Ontario) (the Code) respecting non-discrimination.

AKFC understands that obligations under the AODA and its accessibility standards do not substitute or limit its obligations under the Code or obligations to people with disabilities under any other law.

Our approach includes:

  • Training staff and volunteers on accessibility and respectful service
  • Supporting the use of assistive devices, service animals, and support persons
  • Communicating in accessible ways and providing information in alternate formats upon request
  • Providing notice of temporary service disruptions and accessible alternatives
  • Ensuring accessible recruitment, employment, and workplace accommodations
  • Welcoming and responding to accessibility feedback
