Introduction

The Global Centre for Pluralism was founded as a partnership between His Highness Prince Karim Al‑Hussaini, Aga Khan IV, and the Government of Canada. The Centre’s mission is to influence perspectives, inform policies, and inspire action that advances pluralism in practice. We do this by mobilizing leaders and networks, translating evidence and lived experience into compelling narratives, and amplifying solutions that make pluralism real in diverse contexts.

The Centre believes that when societies engage constructively with differences, they are better equipped to address complex challenges, strengthen social cohesion, and build more inclusive and resilient futures. The Centre collaborates globally with policymakers, educators, community leaders, and institutions to connect knowledge with action, and to elevate leadership that bridges divides and drives change at scale.

About the position

The Chief Engagement & Advancement Officer is a senior leadership role responsible for advancing the Centre’s external influence, storytelling, global engagement, and resource mobilization in support of its mission.

Reporting to the Secretary General and serving on the Senior Leadership Team, the Chief Engagement & Advancement Officer oversees the Centre’s thought leadership and communications, global leaders’ network and awards, and funding partnerships. This newly created role is designed to ensure that pluralist leadership, practice, and evidence are visible, influential, and scaled through our global networks and partnerships.

The role is accountable for mobilizing leaders and partners, amplifying compelling narratives and insights, stewarding strategic relationships, and securing resources to sustain and grow impact, bringing together engagement, communications, fundraising, and relationship management into an integrated and high‑impact portfolio.

Main duties and responsibilities

Narrative Stewardship, Engagement & External Influence

  • Serve as the chief storyteller and steward of the Centre’s narratives, ensuring coherence across all external communications, platforms, and engagements, and amplifying the voices of the Secretary General, partners, and pluralism leaders through high‑impact multimedia content, global campaigns, convenings, and thought leadership outputs.
  • Translate insights from the Centre’s work into compelling narratives, campaigns, donor propositions, and engagement materials that mobilize audiences, strengthen partnerships, and advance pluralist leadership.
  • Lead strategic engagement with global networks, partners, and aligned platforms to amplify pluralist leadership and practice through the Centre‑led networks, awards, convenings, and storytelling platforms.
  • Strengthen the Centre’s visibility and influence on global and regional stages through curated participation in forums, summits, and partnerships, in close coordination with the Secretary General.
  • Ensure engagement strategies reinforce the Centre’s role as a connector, convenor, and amplifier of pluralist practice.

Resource Mobilization & Partnership Development

  • Hold primary accountability for resource mobilization, working with the Secretary General and Senior Leadership Team to expand and diversify funding for the Centre’s strategy.
  • Lead the development of compelling cases for support, donor‑facing narratives, and partnership propositions aligned with the Centre’s broader strategic priorities.
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with institutional funders, philanthropies, foundations, and strategic partners, ensuring alignment between engagement, impact, and resourcing.

Communications, Platforms & Relationship Intelligence

  • Oversee the Centre’s communications, public affairs, media relations, and digital engagement functions to ensure strategic consistency, quality, and reach.
  • Oversee Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and digital engagement platforms to ensure disciplined use, data integrity, and organization‑wide adoption, with accurate, accessible relationship intelligence, engagement history, and performance indicators to support decision‑making and fundraising.
  • Oversee organizational Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) functions to ensure that evidence of impact is effectively captured, translated into compelling stories, incorporated into fundraising and engagement strategies, and used to strengthen organizational learning and decision-making.

Global Pluralism Leaders’ Network & Awards

  • Provide strategic leadership and accountability for strengthening and delivering the Global Pluralism Leaders’ Network and Awards, building on the established strategic direction to advance the Centre’s global influence, visibility, and multiplier impact.
  • Steer the continued implementation and growth of the Network, strengthening collaboration, peer learning, convenings, and partnerships that amplify pluralist leadership worldwide.
  • Ensure the Awards and related convenings are delivered as a flagship global platform for pluralism, aligned with established strategic priorities and signature initiatives.

Team Leadership & Organizational Collaboration

  • Foster a collaborative, high‑performing team culture that integrates engagement, storytelling, fundraising, and impact tracking.
  • Work in close partnership with the Chief of Programs to ensure that program evidence and practice inform communications, engagement, and fundraising.
  • Contribute as a senior leader to organizational strategy implementation, governance support, and institutional stewardship.
