September 24, 2013 - In autumn 2013, award-winning photojournalist Marc Ellison traveled across Canada to share his experiences reporting the stories of former child soldiers in Uganda. Reporting Without a Parachute: Reflections from a Post-War Correspondent was the inaugural AKFC Journalism & Development Lecture, co-presented with our partners at six journalism schools across the country.

October 24, 2013 - The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) works across Africa and Asia with a unifying, overarching goal: to improve quality of life. But what exactly does this mean? How does one define quality of life – let alone measure it? Participants joined Dr. Nazneen Kanji, Director of the Quality of Life Assessment Program, for a revealing conversation on the AKDN’s methods and tools used in countries as diverse as Afghanistan and Mali.

November 21, 2013 - With one in eight people facing chronic hunger, feeding the world’s most vulnerable remains a daunting challenge.  Despite great strides in recent years, poverty, insecurity, natural disasters and gender-based barriers keep millions of people from having enough to eat. Ms. Elisabeth Rasmusson, Assistant Executive Director of the World Food Programme, held a conversation on topics from the current humanitarian crises in the Philippines and Syria, to future prospects for eradicating hunger as part of the post-2015 development agenda.
