November 7, 2016– Together: An exhibition on global development has finished the second leg of its cross-Canada tour, visiting 25 communities in western and central Canada.
Since April 2015, Aga Khan Foundation Canada has welcomed 40,000 visitors to the Together exhibition, an innovative, interactive exhibition on how Canadians are working together to alleviate global poverty.
November 6, 2016– AKFC Reporting Fellow Kayla Hounsell went to Liberia earlier this year to see how the country is rebuilding after the Ebola outbreak that hit west Africa.
October 12, 2016 – In 2017, Canada will celebrate the 150th anniversary of Confederation. Across the country, communities will come together to mark this milestone.
As part of Canada’s 150th celebrations, Together: An exhibition on global development will be travelling across the country, sparking discussions on how Canadians are driving a more peaceful, prosperous, and pluralist world.
October 12, 2016 – The Pamir Mountains, at the junction of the Himalayas with the Tian Shan, Karakoram, Kunlun, and Hindu Kush ranges are among the highest mountains in the world. To the uninitiated, the landscape can seem wild, barren, even hostile. But the region is actually a centre of origin for many crops that we see on dinner tables around the world today, such as rye, and certain varieties of apples, walnuts, and apricots. To the Pamiris however, this is simply home.
October 12, 2016 – Last weekend, we celebrated the fall harvest with a Thanksgiving meal with family and friends. On the other side of the world, families celebrate a different kind of community meal – one that saves lives. In Mozambique, where 2 out of 5 children are malnourished, Canadian support has helped train communities to harvest essential crops and prepare nutritious meals.
October 11, 2016 – On September 21, 2016, His Highness the Aga Khan was honoured as the first recipient of the Adrienne Clarkson Prize for Global Citizenship, for his lifetime commitment to ideals of belonging and inclusion.
September 13, 2016- Together: An exhibition on global development has welcomed over 20,000 visitors since it launched in April this year, traveling across British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. This fall, the exhibition travels to Manitoba and Ontario, exploring how Canadians are working together to alleviate global poverty. Interactive workshops will be delivered at several university stops, including University of Winnipeg and Seneca College. New venues are being added to the schedule regularly. July 13, 2016 – In 1985, a group of women in Vancouver came together to raise funds to support the work of AKFC. All had come from Africa or Asia and wanted to give back to the communities they left behind. They persuaded 1,000 other Canadians to join them in a walk to fight global poverty and raised $55,000.
It’s not too late to join our Walk community in the fight against global poverty.
June 8, 2016 – This summer, 12 accomplished young Canadians will take flight around the globe. They will spend eight months putting their energy and skills to use in the developing world, working in fields from microfinance to education to journalism.
